Defense Modeling and Simulation Coordination Office
The Defense Modeling and Simulation Coordination Office (DMSCO) is the Department’s focal point for promoting the effective and efficient use of modeling and simulation (M&S) as a tool to support the full range and scope of DoD operations and activities. DMSCO addresses the enduring M&S interoperability and reuse needs of the Department through policy, standards, technology, and collaboration. It also identifies and assesses technology for application to Defense M&S.
Important roles for DMSCO are to work with the DoD M&S Community to advise DoD and R&E leaders on (1) developing policy, standards, and strategic goals that guide the Department’s M&S use, research and development, and investments in current and future capabilities; (2) promoting interoperability of M&S tools when required for joint and coalition operations, and cost-effective reuse of existing already-paid-for data and software when feasible; and (3) identifying gaps in M&S capabilities and impediments to interoperability and reuse, and developing courses of action to solve those problems.

M&S COI
Cyber M&S Technical Working Group (CyMSTWG)
-
Primary Purpose
Increasing awareness of DoD Cyber M&S activities and improving visibility, discovery, interoperability and reuse of Cyber M&S activities/investments across DoD by providing a forum to:
-
- Discuss Cyber M&S challenges
- Identify reuse opportunities
- Provide input to S&T in Cyber M&S area
- Provide input for DoD M&S Enterprise activities that can support Cyber
M&S
-
-
Membership

M&S COI
Architecture Working Group (AWG)
-
Primary Purpose
The M&S COI Architecture Working Group (AWG) is formed to investigate
Department Architecture development efforts to determine potential impact(s) to M&S equities and recommend tasks necessary to align M&S architecture activities to Department capabilities.

Additional information about M&S in the DoD can be found at the DMSCO website www.msco.mil.
-
DoD M&S Policies can be found at Policy Guidance.
-
DMSCO provides policy, standards, and best practices for Verification, Validation, and Accreditation (VV&A) of Defense M&S.
-
The DoD Modeling and Simulation Glossary provides uniform M&S terminology for use by the DoD M&S Community. The glossary also serves as an authoritative source for DoD users to communicate M&S information using the same terms and acronyms.
The M&S Guidebook is a compendium of short self-contained articles capturing key concepts, initiatives and programs
-
An annual M&S journal is published through a collaborative effort between the Cyber Security & Information Systems Information Analysis Center (CSIAC) and the Defense Modeling and Simulation Coordination Office (DMSCO).
-
DoD M&S Journals were originally published under the auspices of DMSCO. Historic copies can be found at MS Journals.
